Michael J. McGinnis Mike joined Select Actuarial Services January 2010 as the Marketing Director in the Nashville office after thirty plus years in the property and casualty insurance industry. The industries represented during those years have been healthcare, real estate, pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution, transportation, construction and public entities including the Cayman Island Government. The Cayman Island account included managing their healthcare insurance programs. The government maintained three hospitals, several clinics and outpatient surgery centers on their three islands. The other most recent public entity insurance program managed was the City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Aviation Authority and the Jacksonville Port Authority. Over the past thirty years Mike has worked in several insurance roles, agency owner, underwriter, account executive and the Director of Insurance for one of the largest Mid-South healthcare providers, Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee. Mike has extensive experience in structuring, negotiating and placing large deductible programs, hard to place property insurance, captives, self-insurance and difficult casualty lines of coverage. From 1997 to 2005 Mike worked part-time as a consultant in addition to his regular job responsibilities for businesses in Memphis, Tennessee. Mike also consulted for two years during this time for a hospital in Illinois. The primary consulting duties involved managing the insurance renewal process, doing policy reviews, analyzing self-insurance and deductible programs, and reviewing, analyzing and managing claims issues. Mike earned a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration and Finance from Central Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Economics from California State University Long Beach. Mike has also taken the core classes for a Certificate in Accounting from UCLA. Business related experiences include teaching risk management finance at the University of Memphis and being a member of the National Education Committee for the Risk and Insurance Management Society “RIMS.” Also taken have been the Property, Casualty and Agency Management CIC classes. Mike is currently working on the CRM designation. |
